Cheese is the best, most ultimate food group! Amirite!?!? If you don’t agree, we probably can’t be friends….. OK, we can still be friends, but I get to pick where we go to eat! Anything with cheese is a winner in book and these easy cheese puffs are no exception.
What is in these easy cheese puffs?
The ingredients in these easy cheese puff are super basic! In fact, you probably have everything you need to whip these up already in your pantry and fridge.

- Shredded/grated cheese
- Flour
- Baking powder
- Salt
- Egg
- Water
- Milk
That’s it! Basic huh?
How do I make these easy cheese puffs?
This recipe really only has two steps. Mix and bake. I’m not even kidding, they are that simple! If you are looking for a quick throw together recipe that takes less than five minutes you are in the right place!
- Mix all the ingredients together in a large bowl.
- Fill six greased muffin pan holes
- Bake at 375°F for 10-12 minutes
- Enjoy warm out of the oven!

What type of cheese should I use
The great thing about this recipe is you can literally use any shreddable cheese you like! It is totally up to you and your taste. I used a combination of Vermont white cheddar and extra sharp yellow cheddar in mine.
If you want something with a big flavor punch look for a cheese that has been aged longer such as parmesan, aged gouda or sharp cheddars. If you want something more mild in flavor go with a Swiss, provolone or even mozzarella.
Spoon University has a great article if you are a beginner to cheese and want to learn the basics. If you want some more in depth reading and knowledge of the cheese world check out cheese.com that has facts and info on over 1800 different types of cheese 😜.
How do you eat cheese puffs?
Cheese puffs are best eaten warm straight from the oven. Consider pairing them with butter or cream cheese for a fast and easy breakfast. Or serve them as a dinner roll alternative at dinner time. If you do not happen to eat them all while they are warm they will store in an air tight container for up to three days. Reheat them in the microwave 15-25 seconds before enjoying.

Spice it up
Depending on what cheese you use in the cheese puffs their flavor can be on the mild side. This makes them the perfect vessel for butter or cream cheese as mentioned above, or even your favorite fruit jam. However, if you are looking to add more flavor to your cheese puff try the following add ins.
- 1/3 cup bacon crumbles
- 4 oz can green chiles (reduce water to 1/4 cup)
- 2 tablespoons fresh chives
- 1/4 cup sliced green onions
- 2 tablespoons sliced sun-dried tomatoes
- 3 tablespoons sliced Kalamata olives
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
