Baileys Buttercream
This simple Baileys buttercream is the perfect addition for many cakes or cupcakes. It is smooth and creamy with a nice boozy surprise. With St. Patrick’s Day right around the corner this is the perfect recipe to add to your buttercream collection!
Baileys Buttercream Ingredients
This buttercream recipe requires only three ingredients.
- Powdered sugar
- Salted butter
- Baileys (duh!)
I recommend using salted butter in the buttercream to help combat the sweetness of the powdered sugar and elevate the taste. A good quality salted butter is best as it will contain less water content than cheaper store brand butters. My favorite is Kerry Gold Irish Butter.
Making the buttercream
Start by beating room temperature butter in a large bowl with a hand or stand mixer until smooth. Next add two tablespoons of the Baileys and continue to beat until well combined. Add the powdered sugar one cup at a time until well combined. Add the remaining tablespoon of Baileys one teaspoon at a time until desired consistency is reached.
If you plan to pipe your buttercream you will want a thicker consistency. A thinner consistency is better if you are planning to spread your buttercream with a spatula. If the buttercream is still too thick after adding the final tablespoon of Baileys add more Baileys, heavy cream or full fat milk one teaspoon at a time. Finally beat the buttercream for 2-3 minutes until a smooth consistency is reached.
Baileys Flavors
This recipe works great with classic Baileys Irish Cream, but you can also use any of their other great flavors. I used salted caramel Baileys and paired it with my Rich Chocolate Cupcakes for a fun St. Patrick’s Day treat. Strawberries and cream Baileys would be a perfect addition to a light vanilla cupcake. Consider the apple pie Baileys to top a spiced cupcake, YUM! The possibilities really are numerous.
